Last night was a genuine celebration of a 20-year effort to create healthy workplaces within Central Florida’s business and organizations.
It begins each Corporate 5k season (January – April) with the team captain who champions the wellness cause by engaging his or her co-workers to join in, commit, and train for the IOA Corporate 5k. With supportive leadership and gentle shifts in company culture, it’s clear that the corporate fitness movement shows no signs of slowing down.
So last night an all-time IOA Corporate 5k record was set!
18,020 runners and walkers
790 teams
260 CEOs
All gathered in downtown Orlando for 3.1 miles of fun and camaraderie. Together with co-workers they celebrated their fitness journey, many looking unified in company t-shirts while covering 3.1 miles of scenic downtown neighborhoods under breezy and delightful evening conditions. And about 50% of the race population was covering this distance for the first time!
“It’s hard to put in words how Jon and I felt watching the skies of Central Florida light up with celebratory fireworks while 18,000 runners and walkers took part in our 20th IOA Corporate 5k,” says Betsy Hughes, co-owner of Track Shack. “Congratulations to everyone for finishing the race last night whether it was your first or 20th!
