Andrew Giambarba has been in the insurance industry since 2004, specializing in real estate and professional liability. Although insurance was Andrew’s second career choice, his passion grew for the field, leading him to earn the position of Vice President of Commercial Lines at Insurance Office of America’s (IOA) Miami branch location. Andrew has lived all over Latin America, including Chile, Argentina and Peru, but calls Miami home. He spends much of his free time volunteering with local charities, cooking, and traveling.
His years of experience in the insurance industry has taught Andrew the importance of being an educated consumer. As such, Andrew became part of InVEST, a program developed in 1970 by the Independent Insurance Agents of Los Angeles. This program was developed to improve insurance literacy among millennial students and attract fresh talent to the industry. The program is free and funded by scholarships.
Andrew is a seventh-year instructor and has been Chairman of the InVEST Program since 2008. He teaches vital lessons within the classroom for young adults ultimately making insurance more “human”. Students also have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience through job shadowing and internships with the overall goal of obtaining a career in the insurance industry after graduating. Networking has also proven to be beneficial in Andrew’s career advancement and is one of many topics that he teaches. “… I think it is a sensational program for a number of reasons- the greatest of which is the chance to give back to the industry…” states Giambarba.
When asked what his favorite aspect of the program, Andrew advised:
“Nothing beats calling students at the end of the year and telling them they have won an InVEST scholarship.”
