Brian S. Smith joined Insurance Office of America (IOA) in July 2016 as a sales executive and is responsible for tactical business development with government and defense contractor markets. Strategic business development includes revenue growth through partnerships with centers of influence, bids and proposals, government contracts, non-traditional, non-recurring deployment of insurance capital, and deployment of alternative IOA resources. Brian’s responsibilities include new business development and production as well as client executive assignments. Serving the insurance sector for more than three decades, Brian has expertise in Defense Base Act Insurance, kidnap and ransom, foreign commercial general liability, and business travel accident coverage.

Prior to joining IOA, Brian held a variety of positions in the insurance industry to include risk control/prevention consulting, safety counseling, management, and sales development. Lastly, Brian served with the U.S. Army Reserves for 14 years, retiring in 1999 with the rank of captain. His military specialties included Ordce and chemical operations.

Brian earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Eastern Michigan University. He holds the certified insurance counselor (CIC) and associate in risk management (ARM) designations. He also held the certified safety professional designation and is currently the president of the National Defense Industrial Association of Georgia.
