About Mel
Mel Montagne joined Insurance Office of America (IOA) in 2012 as a commercial lines producer working from the Florida Keys office location. Currently serving as vice president, Mel holds over 30 years of expertise in the insurance industry, specializing in condominium and homeowner associations, hospitality risks as well as contractors. His goal is not just to sell policies but to become a key piece of his clients’ decision-making process while playing an integral role in his community. His approach emphasizes understanding each client’s unique needs, providing clarity on important factors, and being dependable.
Prior to joining IOA, Mel trained at Lloyd’s of London where he implemented and led the retail insurance strategy for Union Planters Bank.
Mel is the president of Fair Insurance Rates in Monroe (FIRM), which is comprised of homeowners and residents who are united to fight against excessive, discriminatory, and unaffordable residential, condominium, and commercial property insurance rates. He also serves as treasurer of the Good Health Clinic as well as being selected to the Government Relations Committee for the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce.
Mel has been honored by the legislative and business development committees of the Key Largo Chamber, the affiliate of the year by the Florida Keys Association of Realtors and the Marathon and Lower Keys Association of Realtors.
Mel attended Miami Dade College and earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from The College of Insurance in New York City. He holds designations for chartered property casualty underwriter (CPCU), associate in risk management (ARM), and associate in national flood insurance (ANFI).
