John Burkart joined Insurance Office of America (IOA) in July 2009 as a commerical insurance producer. With over thirty years of insurance and business experience, John specializes in national specialty program design, sales and marketing, account service, and insurance operation matters.

As a part of the IOA Sports & Entertainment Practice Group for the last two decades, John has also been the insurance broker and risk manager for the American Hockey League (AHL). He handles all lines of sports, entertainment, and association coverages, including property, general liability, excess/umbrella liability, management liability (D&O/ EPLI), crime, auto, workers compensation, sports disability, participant accident, and more. He has worked with the AHL office and IOA’s insurance partners to develop a streamlined online insurance and risk management program. These programs have an overall excellent experience.

John holds degrees in business administration, economics, and law. He is a member of the Law of Society of Upper Canada. He started playing hockey at the age of five in Halifax, Nova Scotia. During his playing days as a defenseman, he played major Canadian college hockey at Acadia University and professionally with RAAK in the Dutch First Division.
